Outline: Child Soldiers

Child Soldier Outline

Thesis Statement: Child Soldiers should not be held accountable for their actions and should be give amnesty

Supporting Idea #1: Children at a very young age have very tender minds that can easily be manipulated. Most of these kids are non very educated so they believe what their Commanders tell them. The Commanders are like a father figure to the kids, and have you ever met a child that hasn't believed his father? These Commanders can manipulate the Children's minds into thinking that the enemies are bad and that they are good. And that killing is good as long as you kill the enemy.

Supporting Idea #2: Children are often taken away from their families and put into war involuntarily so it's either kill or be killed. If they don't do what their Commander asks them to do then there is a chance that the Commander might kill them.

Supporting Idea #3: Most of these Children have had their families taken away from them or slaughtered in front of their own eyes. Most of these Children have been in a real war environment and have witnessed what seems like endless bloody wars with lots of deaths, this really tampers and hinders with their emotional health and may cause them to want to release all their stress/anger on the battlefield.

Counter Argument: They have put their lives in front of many, Some of them have voluntarily joined the war that is because they feel the need to get revenge or that is because they believe that the issue or topic is worth killing for. Either way they are voluntarily killing people and taking their lives, and to me a person's life is more important than any matter, issue, or topic.

  1. This is off to a very strong start. I like how you put the idea of revenge as a counter argument. I'll be interested to see how you develop it in your letter. It's like an elephant in the room - we should discuss it, but it's always ugly.

  2. This a very good outline. Make sure you are doing a good job when developing those supporting ideas.
