Team X Status Report - Day 1

In science class we are constructing a project that will allow us to drop an egg from the roof of our school. But the egg has to survive (not crack) and it has to be dropped aimed at a target. But there is a catch, There is a budget. The budget is 80 million dollars. 80 million dollars might sound like a lot but compared to the prices of the materials it is not as big as you may think. This project is teaching me the design process and in a very realistic way. Because NASA and other space associations go through this many times.
Today in class we sketched and planned out what our egg dropper will look like. With my teammates Eric and Camila we have brainstormed different ideas and we think that we have found the best egg dropper possible with the circumstances given. We think that the egg need a parachute and it needs to be surrounded in styrofoam peanuts. There is more to it but that is basically the general idea. I was a bit doubtful about this entire project before I started, But now that I have actually begun I feel more confident. The reason I am now more confident is because during class we bought all the materials that we needed to build the egg dropper. And we sketched our design so now I feel prepared for next class. But there is one thing that is really scaring me and is making me feel like I am not prepared for next class. And that is the budget. The budget is very big, if it is used wisely. If we mess up there might be no going back (now that we have bought the materials). But I still have confidence in our team. I hope that next class we will not only start the building phase, but hopefully we will finish it. If we are not testing by the end of the class I feel like we are behind.
